So it’s been awhile since I did one of these things; my life isn’t that exciting. Also, I tend more towards private diary entries more than anything else, and I haven’t even done many of those in recent memories what with all my charming survey projects and such.
However, I was amused by a find from the shooting range on the 12th of March, an odd piece of brass that caught my eye. The markings on the back: “ALEX-A” on top, with “.50 BEO” on the bottom. It’s really funky looking. It’s got what’s called a rebated case, where the case widens and becomes bigger around than the base. Dad thought it was funny too, and told me that it was a .50 Beowulf, essentially an M16/AR-15 lower receiver mated to an upper receiver in 50 caliber. I looked up the weapon online on getting home, and quickly found a review page which provided several laughs.

Especially funny was the fact that they were cramming these huge rounds into standard .223 caliber magazines! You can see the pictures of this thing on the review page. The author claims to be able to fit 12 rounds into a 30 round magazine, but he had to “carefully bend the feed lips” to get the thing to function reliably. Uh-huh… Well, takes all kinds I guess…
My Spring Break concluded on a down note. I tried to drive up to Vospel State Park to backpack a nice loop trail through rugged mountainous terrain over the weekend, but I hit a good sized piece of concrete around Macon, Georgia, and the passenger side shock absorber got knocked loose from the van where it connects near the wheel. I suppose 70 MPH does that; the only good news is that I made it all the way back without further mishap, but I need to get the thing looked at. And fixed. And I missed out on backpacking.

Even the pirate/ninja rivalry is addressed! It’s great. Check the About link too… I can’t decide if that’s a Glock Model 17 or 19.
