Congratulations, bud! Things are spinning up here – a bunch of family got into town yesterday and Odette and I are moving into the hotel for the rest of the weekend this afternoon… as well as having more people come into town.

I am appalled. I had no idea banks let government folks just walk off with safety deposit boxes.

I mean, hell, part of the reason I wanted a safety deposit box was to keep things out of everyone’s hands – including the feds.

I enjoyed Obama’s recent speech on race and American politics. I’m somewhat worried that the anti-intellectual movement will latch onto it, though. Which, without regard to politics at all, is just overall bad for intellectuals like us.

Re: minimum wage, you’re both right. Sort of. Federal minimum wage is $5.85, slated to increase by slightly less than a dollar this July, then again the following July (which will put it at $7.25).

But most states set a minimum wage higher than the federal level. In Mass. it’s $8.00 (up from $7.25 in the past year and a half), and wikipedia says Florida’s is $6.79.

Sorry to be totally out of the blue here…. I worked as an office assistant in a payroll department last year, so thought I’d chime in. Good luck on the job front!

A/C, yeah, but are you going to have a desk and a chair, too?

Remember also about camp, about how someone got hurt last year and you almost got promoted to being responsible. Even if you went this year as a middle-level person again, chances are improving that they may try to mash you into dealing with the camp director directly.

Heh. $7 isn’t minimum wage, that’s like $5.50 (isn’t it?). Also, they were misleading about how much end of season commission they’d pay me. But that’s why I’m trying to leave now ASAP.

Stocks are the big thing in the toilet. Gold is doing fine, if oscillating wildly counts as fine.

I went to an Amscot location that was doing recruiting today. Basically, it was a bored/poker faced guy who’d take your resume and get the lowdown and who you were, what you knew and had for qualifications, and if you could work late hours on the schedule. So I told him all about me, my college degree, some about working for Jackon Hewitt, and why I was trying to switch careers. He took my resume and made sure he could get hold of me at my phone number, asking if it was a home or what or if there was something better (why would I put anything but the best one on there?). The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes, 5 of which were taken with finding him and briefly waiting for him to finish with someone else. Turns out he’s a regional manager; I’d taken him for a peon given an annoying task by upper management, as the local management had already left for the day at 17:00.
Anyhow, he said I’d get a call within 48 hours if I made it to the next round of interviews, which is alot better than waiting around for the online application process. I never dreamed of working in an armored box, but I’ll certainly be glad to have any kind of box. Beats the swamp and druggie crowd any day, and I can’t tell you what AC means to me. I might finally get a long term job with AC. This is huge.
